چکیده

1) Evolutionary advantages of intersubjectivity and self-consciousness: * Anxiety limitation process (1), (2), (3): Intersubjectivity and identification with suffering/endangered conspecifics => anxiety increase. Anxiety limitation by development of Empathy, Imitation, Language, Group life, Intersubjectivity. Positive feedback. Evolutionary advantage. * Action programs improvements: Intersubjectivty => agent identifies with the observed conspecific. Agent feels as her own a mistaken action of observed conspecific. Agent perceives from her position the mistaken action of conspecific. A different perspective can bring up new action programs that avoid the mistake. Improved action programs are available to the agent. Transfer to conspecifics through imitation processes. Evolutionary advantage.

Mirror Neurons and (Inter)subjectivity: Typological Evidence from East Asian Languages

Language is primarily constituted by action and interaction based on sensorimotor information. This paper demonstrates the nature of subjectivity and intersubjectivity through the neural mechanism and typological evidence of sentence-final particles from East Asian languages and extends to the discussion of the relationship between them. I propose that intersubjecivity is a kind of embedded or ...

Proposal for an evolutionary approach to self-consciousness

It is pretty obvious to most of us that self-consciousness is a product of evolution. But its nature is unknown. We propose here a scenario addressing a possible evolutionary nature of self-consciousness covering the segment linking pre-human primates to humans. The scenario is based on evolutions of representations and of inter-subjectivity that could have taken place within the minds of our p...

Consciousness of oneself as object and as subject. Proposal for an evolutionary approach

submission for TSC 2014: We humans experience ourselves as objects and as subjects. The distinction initiated by Kant between consciousness of oneself as object and consciousness of oneself as subject was a strict one. The rigidity of that distinction has been challenged by philosophers from the continental and the analytic traditions [1]. From another perspective, researches about animal self-...

Consciousness as recursive, spatiotemporal self-location.

At the phenomenal level, consciousness arises in a consistently coherent fashion as a singular, unified field of recursive self-awareness (subjectivity) with explicitly orientational characteristics--that of a subject located both spatially and temporally in an egocentrically-extended domain. Understanding these twin elements of consciousness begins with the recognition that ultimately (and mos...

Emerging selves: Representational foundations of subjectivity

A hypothetical evolutionary scenario is offered meant to account for the emergence of mental selves. According to the scenario, mental selves are constructed to solve a source-attribution problem. They emerge when internally generated mental contents (e.g., thoughts and goals) are treated like messages arising from external personal sources. As a result, mental contents becomes attributed to th...
